Welcome to Bramblestone Farm!
We’re a small, 10 acre farm in Northeast Ohio that believes locally grown, real foods are important; so we raise heritage Buckeye chickens, ADGA/AGS Nigerian Dwarf goats, natural produce, and honey bees. We specialize in pasture raised eggs, Nigerian Dwarf goats, naturally grown fruit & vegetable products, and honey.
Our Buckeye chickens love ranging on two fenced acres of pasture; so their eggs are naturally superior in flavor, color, and consistency when compared to grocery store eggs (see Choices in Egg Quality). In addition, they’re antibiotic & hormone free; and pasture raised eggs have been shown to be higher in beneficial omega fatty acids and vitamins A & E when compared to factory raised eggs. When the chickens are in the coop, they can be viewed on the chicken coop cam. Currently, the flock produces far more eggs than we can consume, so we generally have eggs for sale. For more information on what’s special about Buckeye chickens, please see the Buckeye page.
Nigerian Dwarf Goats
Nigerian Dwarf (ND) goats are miniature dairy goats; and on average, an ND doe will produce 800 pounds of
creamy milk per year. We raise ND’s because of their high quality – high butterfat milk, small size, and loving personalities. We currently have three young does (Bit ‘O’ Honey, Jewel Box, and Tinker Bell) that graze on four fenced acres. We’re planning our first kidding season in the spring of 2012 (see Kidding Schedule), with milk production and dairy conformation as our breeding priorities.
All of the does tested negative for CAE, CL, Johnnes, Brucellosis, and TB before coming to Bramblestone; and we maintain a closed herd so the does (and their offspring) will remain disease free. You can find more information about each doe on her page (click on her name), as well as access her pedigree. They are all ADGA/AGS dual registered, and all have many great Nigerian milkers in their ancestry.
Naturally Grown Fruit & Vegetable Products
At Bramblestone, we raise a wide variety of fruits and vegetables using the composted bedding from the goats and chickens to maintain soil fertility, rather than using chemical fertilizers. We also avoid chemical insecticides and herbicides, preferring to rely on good soil fertility and natural methods to prevent insect or disease damage to crops. From these naturally raised fruits and vegeatables, we produce and sell small batches of jams, jellies, and pickles; including hot pepper jelly, raspberry jam, and raspberry - jalapeno jam.
